Short Stories
Things continue to progress in the magical land of complete obscurity, though often I feel as though its not obscure or complete enough. That being said I suppose I wouldn't have developed a desire to make "outsider" (or my personal preferred term "unwanted") art if the institution I attend hadn't taught me the meaning of the term. It seems hypocrisy is unavoidable at this point.
The narratives are at the point where they are starting to congeal enough that I can start talking about them and (thusly) preparing them for the waves of criticism I'm coming to expect as we move into the actual "thesis" process.
Primary Concepts:
Entropy in Storytelling - Loss of information due to subjectivity, time, repeated tellings, and context.
New Isolationism - Both at the macro and micro level culturally, politically, and socially. The growing trend of seeing oneself or one's society, country, or industry devolve into autarchism.
Winnipeg Folklore - Creating fictitious parables and events in a Winnipeg that either can't exist, doesn't exist yet, or exists exclusively through an individual lens.
Primary Narratives:
"The Underground Railway" (Manitoba Ave.)(Murmur) - A mock history about a proposed subway system beneath the city that failed due to infighting and financial mismanagement. After existing the public consciousness the subway is re-appropriated as a meth lab and subsequently excavated and closed off by the police.
"The Olympian" (Rothesay St.)(Chatter) - A parable about an East Kildonan bathhouse which came to serve as a front for a human trafficking ring responsible for numerous abductions form cities and reservations in the greater southern Manitoba area. The family operating the ring inevitably broadcasts their business too loudly and can no longer afford to maintain the necessary bribes required to keep the ring running.
"The Cardboard Room" (Guelph St.)(Prattle) - A semi-autobiographical story about a voyeur who falls into a fugue state following the loss of a friend and begins to believe that they are the missing piece of an old camera left to them as part of their friend's will. The voyeur becomes increasingly obsessed with documenting the interactions of his neighbors under the belief that a catastrophe is about to befall the apartment he lives in.
"The Destroyed Room" (Kildonan Park)(Whisper) - A future history of the Rainbow Stage theater in Kildonan Park after the "bubble effect" of gentrification spreads out into the far north end. Funding cuts to the arts render the theater unused, and it becomes a safe haven for a growing homeless population before being burned down by arsonists.
"The Water Garden" (Wolsley Ave.)(Mumble) - A children's story about a flower living in a greenhouse loft on the top of an apartment block. The flower falls into a romantic relationship with its owner and begins to become suspicious of the other plants in the greenhouse. Its concern is compounded when it is moved outside by its owner under the guise of favoritism.

Prep Work No. 1
I have been trying to get an early start on this project as I am already phobic of the time constraints associated with animation, never mind the amount of catch up necessary on the programming and writing fronts, which is perhaps altogether too much to think about.
So far my roughs are starting to form up decently. In addition I've taken care of modeling about 7 noses for characters, which kind of makes me wish I never had to look at one again. I've also decided to make my own shaders as I'm not exactly happy with the cell shaders I've been able to find online. Anyways, pictures. Also an awful all-hexagon model that was the result of bad choices in both the alcohol and tiling department.

Things I should have been doing instead of desparately attempting to rebound:
- Assembling Ikea furniture.
- Working on my mandatory sketchbook pages.
- Working on my final assignment.
- Studying.
- Exercising.
I'm sure there's more.

I have seven pieces started and I will never finish any of them.
But regretfully I haven't found anything more meaningful to do with my time. So I'll keep getting half the results I want under the assumption that when I'm old and irrelevant I'll be able to achieve the things I needed to do when I was young and everything still mattered. I'd be able to get shit done too if I wasn't always trying to get something substantial out of the people around me, who are either devoid of inspiration or too caught up in what little they have.
Compromise is the biggest part of it. If I hadn't spent the previous five years compromising everything and had built something of my own instead I wouldn't be feeling the clock so much right now.
But whatever, enough talking about it, time to get a coffee and draw quietly in the corner until the skanks at tim hortons get tired of my creepy ass.
